Neighbors used to call each other. We are going for solid grassroots connections, not social media grasstops or email weeds. Mutual aid is getting back to basics. Just call or text. Mae will get back to you as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that nomads often park where there is no connectivity for days at a time and community care gets booked out across the region for months in advance.

how it works

  • The number above is a secure, private line that goes to Mae only* for Neighbors Nomadas coordination

  • Call or text to start the assistance process with ample lead time for coordination and scheduling - we recommend 3-4 weeks for pets and property care and 2 weeks minimum for people care

  • Cost of care is evaluated and quoted on the following factors:

    • Scope of work (nature of care tasks, number of pets, level of care, location of property, etc.)

    • Time and materials (hours of work and any costs the nomad incurs in providing the assistance)

    • Mutually beneficial trade factors (i.e. amenities you can offer the nomad during their stay, project you can help them with, trade pet sitting times, laundry and shower access, etc)

    • Level of need and ability to compensate or trade (the pay it forward faith factor)

  • We facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships between nomad neighbors and residential neighbors - all arrangements are unique and determined on a case by case basis

  • Exception to the above is for homecare clients with Oregon Department of Health approved assistance:

    • Tasks and compensation are coordinated by a state assigned case manager

    • The consumer client that would like homecare needs to connect Mae with their case manager

    • Mae is an approved DHS Homecare Provider and will provide the case manager with her Provider #

*Mae is the only nomad available for care assistance in this pilot phase of Summer 2025, we are growing the network and have a team working on the vetting and tech process that will connect you to nomad neighbors nationwide - the future Neighbors Nomadas app is slated for early 2026

Mae’s set up with her van was the perfect solution for me during a great time of need. I needed daily assistance after cancer surgery, could not accommodate hosting and did not qualify for any local homecare assistance programs at the time. Mae parked her van in the driveway for 10 days and helped me with everything from wound care and medication management to meal prep, shopping, organizing and cleaning. Her pup, Zorro, got along great with my pup and she took them for walks and play at the park every day. All I could afford at the time was to offset her gas costs for traveling to me and she expected nothing more. A few months later the Veterans Administration surprisingly increased my disability for the cancer. I contacted Mae to compensate her for all her help and we worked out that I paid part of Zorro’s vet bill from some unexpected health problems she didn’t have enough budget for. Mae’s mutual aid spirit and faith in paying it forward was genuine and refreshing. What goes around comes around!
